This project is by Michael Arad, Earth School parent as well as designer of the World Trade Center Memorial,
"Reflecting Absence" which saw its millionth visitor within months of its opening. Arad also chaired the jury of the
prestigious New York City AIDS Memorial Park Design Competition last year.

Eighty green beds later, our utopian-eyed finalist from 2010 is getting ready to open its rooftop farm this September.
Kids Farming in the City (a.k.a. The Fifth Street Farm), is an edible garden perched across the roofs of three East
Village schools, P.S. 64, the Tompkins Square Middle School and the Earth School. The raised deck will be
programmed into the curricula of the pre-kindergarden to eighth grade students who will utilize it. Providing both food
for stomach and thought, the farm will be used for growing produce for the schools' cafeteria and classroom cooking,
for a sensory garden, as well as for theme-based gardens such as Native American agriculture, nutrition and
sustainability.

Agency Architecture and Super Levee (2010)
Following their award of the ONE Prize in 2011, partners Ersela Kripa and Stephen Mueller of AGENCY showcased
their winning project, Super Levee Urban Farm, in the publication My Green City | Back to Nature with Attitude and Style
(Gestalten, 2011) and at Barcelona's eme3 International Architecture Festival and in Made Up: Design's Fictions at the
Art Center College of Design in California. In 2011, the duo were selected as one of ARCHITECT Magazine's
Emerging Talents and also were awarded the 2010-2011 Rome Prize in Architecture from the American Academy in
Rome.

At the heart of Super Levee Urban Farm is a global system of levees which amounts to a sequence of ecologies that
feed into each other. Clippings, compost, and surplus crops from farming levels are used as nutrients and food for
fish farms, marshes and restorative dune ecologies. Waste from marine life and nutrients from algal habitats are then
used to fertilize farm levels, making the levee a complete ecology.
Gotham Greens (2010)
You can now walk into Whole Foods and bare the fruit (or, more accurately, vegetables) of Viraj Puri's ONE Prize
proposal. All the way from on top of an abandoned bowling alley in Brooklyn, the solar-powered greenhouse known as
Gotham Greens is producing various brands of green vegetables using hydroponics. The computer-controlled system
brings a new efficiency to farming through the use of mineral nutrient solutions. The  technique eliminates the need for
soil, recycles water and eradicates agricultural runoff and chemical pesticides, thereby enabling optimal flavor and
quality year-round.

Since its first harvest last year, Gotham Greens has successfully made it to the tables of Gramercy Tavern and can
also be found on the shelves of Brooklyn Standard, Whole Foods Market, Fresh Direct, D'Agostino's and Union Market,
amongst other locations.

miLES has been listening to the commmunity and positiong them selves to better suit the needs of different
steakholders within the Lower East Side. They are happy to announce they are launching their
new website and have
partnered with Fourth Arts Block to open the first miLES storefront at FABWORKS starting April 1, 2013 for a three
month period. FABWORKS is located at 75 E 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Ave.
